Hops |
| Bohemian hops was considered the best hops for brewing. In the middle of the 18th century the cultivation of hops was also initiated in Bavaria with the help of state subsidies.(for example in the Hallertau). The sandy turf ["Loess"] of these regions is an important quality determinant for the cultivation of hops. Furthermore an optimal climate is offered to the hops here: Much moisture in the first stage of the growth and then a pronounced dryness before the maturity phase. The hops plant remains in the ground after the harvest and shoot forth again in April . Such a plant can survive one human generation. Hops is harvested - subject to type - from August 20th to September 20th . The hops for Schneider Weisse comes exclusively from neutrally controlled cultivation territories. The hops is added to the wort in the brewhouse. The aroma components dissolve during the boiling and are responsible for the bitterness of the beer.

Humulus lupulus |
| (Hops) is used in the medicine in the form of hops flowers "humuli lupuli flores" or hops cones. The bitter components, resin substances, ethereal oils and tanning agents are the most important components of hops. It is still unkown what part of the hops contributes to the calming and relaxing effect of it. Hops stimulates appetite, calms and relaxes you down, and is good for heart and soul.
