One can rightfully designate Southern Bavaria as the stronghold of wheatbeer. In 1997 some 24.8 million hls of beer were brewed in Bavaria [= 21.2 million bls.] . Throughout Bavaria the share of wheatbeer was 31.9% . Of these 24.8 million hls of beer brewed Northern Bavaria accounted for 8.5 million hls [=7.3 million bls.] - the share of wheatbeer being 18.6% - while Southern Bavaria took 16.3 million hls [=13.9 million bls] - the share of wheatbeer being 38.8%
